This playground issues three test credentials to your wallet. You then use them at Wayfare, our mock car rental service, to prove who you are and drive away, without handing over a copy of your passport or your bank details.
How this works
Three roles, two protocols
Everything on this page follows the European Digital Identity standards. The terminology below is the same you will find in the specifications, so you can map what you see to what you read.
Issuer
The party that states something about you and signs it. On this page we act as the issuer of a Personal ID, a driving licence and a bank account.
Holder
You. Your credentials live in your wallet on your phone, not in our database. You decide each time whether to share, and what.
Verifier
The party that asks for proof. Wayfare is the verifier: it asks whether you may drive, not who your bank is.
Issuance: OpenID4VCI
You scan a credential offer. Your wallet fetches the credential from the issuer and stores it, cryptographically bound to a key that only your phone holds.
Presentation: OpenID4VP
A verifier sends a query describing what it needs. Your wallet shows you the request, and only what you approve is sent back, signed.
Why the verifier learns less than you might expect
The credentials use SD-JWT VC, which supports selective disclosure. Wayfare asks whether you are over 21, not for your date of birth. Your wallet answers exactly that question and reveals nothing else, and the answer is still verifiably signed by the issuer.
Step 1
Use a compatible EUDI wallet
You need a wallet app to receive and share credentials. Any wallet that speaks OpenID4VCI and OpenID4VP can hold them, but it also has to accept credentials from an issuer it does not know yet, and not every wallet does.

Issue your test credentials
Pick a credential and scan the QR code with your wallet. The data is fictional: you are receiving the credentials of Klaas Jansma, so nothing about you is stored anywhere.

Name, date of birth, nationality and address. Wayfare uses it to check your identity, your age and where you live.

Use the credentials for real
Issuing a credential is only half the story. These are live services that ask for what you just received.
Our mock rental service
Wayfare Car Rental
wayfare.test.credenco.comWayfare is a car rental company we built to show what a booking looks like when the customer already carries verified credentials. There is no account to create and no form to fill in: you pick a car, prove three things about yourself, and the reservation lands back in your wallet.
What happens next
Pick a car
Choose a model from the fleet and start the reservation.
Verify your identity
Wayfare shows a QR code and states exactly what it will check: your name, that you are over 21, that you hold a category B licence, and your address.
Review what was shared
After scanning you are welcomed by name, with the verified details listed so you can see precisely what Wayfare received, and what it did not.
Confirm and pay
Continue to payment and scan a second QR code, which presents your bank account credential instead of typing in an IBAN.
Get your reservation
Wayfare issues the booking back to you as a credential. Scan the last QR code and it is stored in your wallet, next to the others.
Collect the car
At the desk you need nothing but your phone. One scan of the reservation credential and you drive away.
You are missing Personal ID (SD-JWT VC), Driving licence, Bank account. You can continue, but the rental will stop when Wayfare asks for it.
If something goes wrong
- "No credentials available" almost always means one of the three is missing from your wallet. Come back here and issue the one you skipped.
- Start a fresh reservation rather than reloading a page you already scanned into. Wayfare evaluates everything presented in a booking session, so an earlier attempt can keep an old result on screen.

Prove who you are and that you may drive
Share your Personal ID together with your driving licence.
This asks for two credentials at once and your wallet needs both. You are missing Personal ID (SD-JWT VC), Driving licence. Issue it above first, otherwise your wallet will report that it has nothing to share.
