eIDAS 2.0 compliant by design

Proof that you may practise. In your own wallet.

Sophie Dekker is a physiotherapist, and before she may work she has to be in the BIG register. This playground puts her Personal ID in your wallet. With it you collect her BIG registration at the register, and a hospital verifies it during onboarding — without post, without a copy of a diploma, and without anyone phoning the register.

Step 1

Use a compatible EUDI wallet

You need a wallet app to receive and share credentials. Any wallet that speaks OpenID4VCI and OpenID4VP can hold them, but it also has to accept credentials from an issuer it does not know yet, and not every wallet does.

Step 2

Issue your test credentials

Scan the QR code with your wallet to receive the Personal ID. The data is fictional: you are receiving the Personal ID of Sophie Dekker, so nothing about you is stored anywhere.

Your credentials

0 / 1

Personal ID (SD-JWT VC)

Issue the Personal ID first: the register needs it to look Sophie up.

Personal ID (SD-JWT VC)

Sophie's name, date of birth, nationality and address. The BIG register uses her name to find her entry; nothing else on it leaves the wallet.

Step 3

Use the credentials for real

Issuing a credential is only half the story. The BIG register and Amsterdam Healthcare are live desks: one issues the registration, the other verifies it.

Sophie proves she may practise

The BIG register

Sophie Dekker is a physiotherapist. Every doctor, nurse, physiotherapist and pharmacist in the Netherlands has to be in the BIG register before they may practise, and until now that meant a certificate by post and an employer checking it by hand. In this demo you are Sophie: you identify yourself at the register with the Personal ID in your wallet, collect your BIG registration into it, and then let Amsterdam Healthcare verify it during onboarding.

What happens next

1

Get Sophie's Personal ID

Issue the Personal ID above and store it in your wallet. It is what identifies Sophie at the register — she has no account there, and does not need one.

2

Identify yourself at the BIG register

Open the register and choose to sign in with your wallet. Instead of a username and a password you present the Personal ID, and the register reads only your name and date of birth from it.

3

See what the register holds

The register shows the entry it found: BIG number, profession, specialisation, the date you were registered and whether the registration is in force.

4

Collect the registration into your wallet

Scan the QR code and the BIG registration lands in your wallet, next to the Personal ID. It is signed by the register, so nobody has to call the register to believe it.

5

Apply at Amsterdam Healthcare

Come back here and open Amsterdam Healthcare from the link below. Onboarding asks for your BIG registration and for nothing else: not your Personal ID, not your address, not a copy of a diploma.

6

Watch it being verified

The hospital checks the register's signature, that the registration has not expired and has not been withdrawn, and that the wallet showing it is the wallet it was issued to. That used to be a phone call; here it takes a second.

Issue the Personal ID first

You are missing Personal ID (SD-JWT VC). You can continue, but the register will stop when it asks who you are.

If something goes wrong

  • "No credentials available" at the register means the Personal ID is not in the wallet you are using. Come back here and issue it. At the hospital desk the same message means you have not collected the BIG registration yet.
  • If a desk still shows an earlier attempt, go back to its home page and start again: every attempt gets its own code, and an old one no longer answers.
